Fortitude

Hello Friends: I recently sent out a sketch of a carved lion in his Christmas wreath decoration. He is one of the two lions that guard the entrance to the NY City public library, Patience and Fortitude. I was asked why a lion, and now have to admit that at the time I was thinking only of his regal grandeur and the artistry of the form. I now modestly propose that after a particularly ugly week in Washington, DC, that that lion speaks to us from his temple of knowledge and could be seen as a reminder to stay strong in this difficult time. America needs people of good will. I wish you health and all the best in this new year. Ed
